The literature search was performed in CAB and MEDLINE databases, for the retrospective period of-t8 years. Description: A 9 year-old mongrel intact male dog was presented t0 the Small Animal Surgery Service of the Veterinary Hospital of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil, for evaluation of a subcutaneous soft issue mass located cranial to the right antebrachiocarpal joint. Over the course of 17 months, non-aspiration fine needle (21-27G) cytology was performed on 213 dogs with 300 skin and soft tissue tumors. The smears were air dried and stained by the Rosenfeld method. There were 119 males (56%) and 94 females (44%), the majority of at least 6 years of age (75%). Mongrel dogs were over-represented (n=74), followed by Boxer (n=21), Poodle (n=18), German Shepard (n=15), Cocker Spaniel (n=12), and Doberman Pinscher (n= 11). In 40% of the cases (85 dogs, 117Iesions), histological evaluation was available to compare with the cytologic results. In this group, 77 specimens were benign (22 non-neoplastic and 55 neoplastic) and 40 malignant. Tumors were represented by 19%non-neoplastic lesions, 36% epithelial tumors, 30%... |

Objective: To disclose the technique, equipment, mechanism of action, indications, advantages and disadvantages, complication and/or after-effects of cryosurgery in treatment of lesions. Data Sources: Data search was carried out in data base systems of CAB and MEDLINE over a 30-year term. Data Synthesis: Cryosurgery consists of the treatment of lesions through freezing (liquid nitrogen at -196° C).It has been used in medicine for the treatment of skin, liver, kidneys, prostate and oral cavity neoplasias. In. veterinary medicine it is still not broadly known and literature lacks information as to its application. It is an easily performed procedure, requiring however knowledge of the technique, of indications and possible complications and after-effects.... |

Perineal hernia occurs more frequently in non-castrated maledogs aged over five years. Surgical techniques for pelvicdiaphragm repair are varied, and can be employed aloneor associated with others and include the standard suturetechnique, transposition of the internal obturator muscle, transposition of the superficial gluteal muscle, transposition ofthe semitendinosus muscle, repair with synthetic or biologicalimplants, colopexy, and cistopexia. Associated postoperativecomplications are injury of the sciatic or pudendal nerve, fecalor urinary incontinence, rectal prolapse, infection, wounddehiscence, and hernia recurrence. Since it is a disease with highrates of complications and recurrences, we decided to conductthis review covering general aspects and the... |

The use of honey provides considerable benefit in wound care as a stimulus for tissue growth, increased epithelialization, and reduced scar formation. These effects are due to its acidity, the presence of hydrogen peroxide, osmotic effect, and antioxidant content. A four-year-old canine Labrador showed an extensive wound around the left thoracoabdominal area as the result of a third-degree burn due to the use of an electrical thermal mattress. After debridement of the necrotic tissue and ten days of antibiotic therapy, the use of a topical dressing with organic honey was begun, twice a day, with pure honey applied with surgical gauze and protected with a dressing. The injury progressed with good healing, with epithelialization and formation of granulation... |
